Missions at The United Church
The United Church of Mapleton is involved in local, national, and international missions in a variety of ways.
The local missions we support include Maple River Loaves & Fishes Food Shelf, The Well Youth Center, and Meals on Wheels.
Maple River Loaves & Fishes is our local food shelf. It opened on June 1st, 2010, and is located in St. John's Lutheren Church's Education Wing (located at the corner of 1st Ave NW and Main Street in Mapleton). It is designed to help those in need in the Mapleton, Amboy, Good Thunder, and Minnesota Lake areas by providing access to nutritional food and personal care items. They partner with Second Harvest Heartland to eliminate the "missing meals" in Blue Earth County.
In the first month of operation, they helped 23 families made up of 33 adults, 32 children from age 3 months to 17 years, and 2 seniors by distributing 2,100 lbs of food and personal care products through 37 visits, 2 home deliveries, and 7 emergency boxes located at 5 area churches directly participating in the mission of the food shelf.
The United Church is proud to volunteer as part of the Loaves & Fishes volunteer cycle, collect non-perishable items as a concentrated effort at least monthly, and support this mission financially.
Hours of operation: Tuesdays 3 pm - 6 pm and Saturdays 10 am - Noon.
No one will be turned away.

The Well Youth Center has, and hopes to continue, serving youth from the Maple River area communities of Amboy, Good Thunder, Mapleton and Minnesota Lake and is supported by area churches, businesses, community organizations, as well as individuals.
The Well provides a safe after school environment and offers a place where youth can visit with peers, study, play games, create crafts and learn life skills. Youth are also provided with healthy snacks and beverages while they await their parents return from work. The Well offers Christian-values-based sessions and has implemented a goal-orientated program called The Wellness Project where trained coaches meet with youth on a weekly basis. As a service to the communities, we also encourage and involve youth in community events.
The Well Youth Center is always in need of donations and volunteers to keep its mission going. All contributions, both monetary and in-kind, are much appreciated. A box for snack donations is in the narthex near the east door.
Hours of operation when school is in session: Tuesday - Friday 3:00 - 5:00pm

Nationally, we support the American Baptist Home Mission Society through the special offering known as "America For Christ." We support national United Church of Christ mission work through two special offerings: "Strengthen the Church," which supports church growth and leadership development through Local Church Ministries, and "Neighbors in Need," which supports the justice and compassion ministries of the UCC.
We also collect items for and pack baby, school, and care kits for Church World Service several times a year. These kits are distributed to people in need throughout our country and world.
Internationally, we are proud to support the One Great Hour of Sharing offering, an ecumenical effort promoted by both the ABC and the UCC.
