Sunday School

Echo the Story, by Sparkhouse

Sunday at 10:10am, beginning Sunday, September 21st

“From creation to the formation of the church, students enter into each Biblical story imaginatively making observations, drawing, writing, and participating in group dialogue. Echo the Story 12 is a 12-session overview of the Bible for youth. The complete Echo the Story experience helps participants discover meaning and identity in the biblical narrative using a DVD, participant Sketch Journal, and detailed Leader Guide.”

Service Activities

I hope to offer a couple of service activities per semester for our Youth Group to be part of. Around Thanksgiving and Christmastime, Loaves & Fishes usually needs help packing food boxes for families, so that’s one option, and I’ll keep an eye out for details.

I hope that we will have Cows for Christmas/Parents Night Out again this December, and help from youth playing with children would be greatly appreciated, so I’ll pass along details on that one as they’re firmed up.

We had five youth attend Pilgrim Point Summer Camp in Alexandria, MN from July 27 – August 1. They were Carter B., Jayden M., Konnor M., Nick S., and Cody W. Jeff and I attended as adult volunteers during the second half of the week. Many thanks to Dick D. who drove our youth up to Alexandria on Sunday, July 27! I took some fun pictures of our time together and hope you enjoy them!

Our high school youth had the opportunity to put their faith in action and help build a house for Habitat for Humanity in Alexandria, and everyone had the chance to take part in a high ropes challenge course. A high point of the week was the “Spirit Dash” on Thursday afternoon, where groups of youth went from station to station to complete challenges like carrying buckets of water on their heads three-legged-relay style, or styling each other into characters using shaving cream. There was also plenty of time dedicated to faith formation, Christian education, worship, and enjoying Lake Ida.

I know that Jeff and I had a great time, and I think our youth did, too. I hope that there will be many more years to come of youth camping together at The United Church!

Our annual Palm Sunday Brunch was a great success! We had about 50 people enjoy brunch together in the Fellowship Hall and we raised about $370 for our United Church Youth Camping Scholarship Fund - almost enough money to pay for 2 youth to attend camp at Pilgrim Point this summer in Alexandria, MN! Many, many thanks to all who prepared and served our meal, to all who came and donated to support our youth, and to all of the youth who helped with setup and cleaning up!

Thanks to everyone that bought cookies this past Sunday! We sold all 31 1/2 dozen cookies and raised $175! During our Mission Moment in worship this Sunday, Jeff will give share more about our plans for camp this summer, what our two camp options are, and more about our next big camp scholarship fundraiser: the Palm Sunday Brunch!

We had a great time decorating over 375 cookies on Sunday after worship for our "Sweets for Your Sweet" fundraiser! We've already had a lot of orders and we'll sell the rest this Sunday (2/9) for sure. All of our proceeds go to our Christian Education Youth Camping Fund to help us attend Quest Camp this summer. Thanks for your support, and thanks to all the adults (and a child, too!) that helped us decorate!
