Church Council, Covenant Committees and Teams
Church Council
The Church Council manages the business affairs of the Church, including determining and managing the church budget. The Church Council is entrusted with the care and custody of the property of the Church, has charge of church financial affairs, and oversees personnel matters.
Our current Council Members are Dick Dietz (Moderator), Gretchen Hillesheim (Clerk), Lanny Cox (Property Coordinator), Joyce Johnson (Congregational Relationships), Gary Fritz (Treasurer), Ginny Kinzie (Financial Secretary), and Darlene Fezler (Community Outreach Coordinator), Karen Stanton (C.E. Faith Formation Coordinator)
Pastoral Relations Committee
The Pastoral Relations Committee works to facilitate communication, harmony, and coordination between the Pastor and the congregation, including lay leadership and committees/boards. The Pastoral Relations is a source of counsel and support for the Pastor and a confidential mediator between laity and Pastor.
Our current Pastoral Relations Committee members are Bruce Stanton, Mary Beth Fritz, Lanny cox.
Faith Formation for All Ages
This includes Bible Study, Sunday Faith Formation opportunities for children along with a mid-week ecumenical Wednesday after-school program.
Our current Christian Education/Faith Formation Coordinator is Karen Stanton.
Community Outreach
According to The United Church Constitution, the Community Outreach "is charged to educate itself and all who are the United Church family about the greater mission of this Church. The greater mission shall include projects from the American Baptist Churches and the United Church of Christ. The Mission Committee shall advise the Church Council and promote such mission projects as directed by that Body."
Our current Community Outreach Coordinator is Darlene Fezler.
Congregational Relationships
The Congregational Relationships Coordinator shall cooperate with the Pastor in administering the spiritual interests of the Church and community.
The Congregational Relationships Coordinator will provide for the worship life of the Church and for opportunities of spiritual growth and formation for all members of the Church, including but not limited to the prayer chain, special seasonal or topical worship services, and special seasonal or topical faith formation small groups.
The Congregational Relationships Coordinator assists in the preparation and the administration of the Ordinances/Sacraments, and in caring for the poor, the sick, aged, and sorrowing , the indifferent, and the stranger.
The current Congregational Relationships Coordinator is Joyce Johnson.
Property Coordinator
The Property Coordinator is entrusted with the care, custody, and security of the Church properties and buildings.
The current Property Coordinator is Lanny Cox.
Talent Team
All positions of lay leadership in the church are filled by the Nominating Committee each year, including the Moderator, Treasurer, Clerk, Financial Secretary, and Coordinators who oversee Faith Formation, Congregational Relations, Outreach, Building and Grounds. The Nominating Committee presents the ballot of leadership for congregational vote at the November Proposed Budget/Election Congregational Meeting.
Our current Nominating Committee members are Stan Whitney, Chris Murphy.
Called to Care Team
These Care Caregivers assist the Pastor in lay pastoral visitation to Church members, including but not limited to those who are home-bound, nursing home-bound, coping with chronic illness, grieving, dealing with life changes, isolated, or lonely.
Women's Fellowship
The United Church of Mapleton Women's Fellowship was formed in about 1931. They meet on the second Monday each month. These members assist with weddings, funerals, or in any other capacity as needed. A quilting group gathers every Wednesday afternoon at 1:00pm and all hands are welcome. Their quilts are given as gifts to brides to be, high school graduates, and to support our missions. New members are always welcome!
