Missions at The United ChurchThe United Church of Mapleton is involved in local, national, and international missions in a variety of ways.
The monthly local missions we support and donate to include Maple River Loaves & Fishes Food Shelf, Maple River Angel Food Account, Mapleton Fire Department, Mapleton VFW, Five Sisters Project, Backpack Program, Alzheimer's Walk, Cancer Society, Red Cross, Seeds of Hope Camp. Other Missions include: Imana Kids and Heifer International. Maple River Loaves & Fishes is our local food shelf. It opened on June 1st, 2010, and is located in St. John's Lutheran Church's Education Wing (located at the corner of 1st Ave NW and Main Street in Mapleton). It is designed to help those in need in the Mapleton, Amboy, Good Thunder, and Minnesota Lake areas by providing access to nutritional food and personal care items. They partner with Second Harvest Heartland to eliminate the "missing meals" in Blue Earth County. The United Church is proud to volunteer as part of the Loaves & Fishes volunteer cycle, collect non-perishable items as a concentrated effort at least monthly, and support this mission financially. We also provide fresh produce through our hands-on Garden of Eatin' grown in our front yard. Hours of operation: Tuesdays 3 pm - 6 pm and Saturdays 10 am - Noon. No one will be turned away. For more information, call (507) 524-3046, email loavesandfishes@hickorytech.net, or visit their Facebook page. Nationally, we support the American Baptist Home Mission Society through the two special offerings known as "America For Christ" and World Mission Offering. We support national United Church of Christ mission work through two special offerings: "Strengthen the Church," which supports church growth and leadership development through Local Church Ministries, and "Neighbors in Need," which supports the justice and compassion ministries of the UCC. We also support both the UCC and ABC Retired Ministers funds-Christmas Fund (UCC) and Retired Ministers and Missionaries Offering (ABC). We also collect items for and pack school and hygiene care kits for Church World Service each year. These kits are distributed to people in need throughout our country and world. Internationally, we are proud to support the One Great Hour of Sharing offering, an ecumenical effort promoted by both the ABC and the UCC. |
